Located in the Fair Play AVA, and situated among the rocky, granitic hillsides of the Sierra Nevada foothills, Baiocchi Wines is a family-run vineyard producing high quality, small lot wines from our estate-grown grapes.

Harvest alarm clock ticking in Sierra Foothills Vineyards
Vintners have an internal clock that’s starts ticking at fruit set. This typically happens mid May for our vineyard. That tick, tick, tick turns into an alarm bell at veraison, typically August 1st for our vineyard.

This report features recommended wines from recent blind tastings priced at $40 or less. It’s a diverse group of mostly reds, with a lone outstanding Sonoma Chardonnay thrown into the mix.
Baiocchi, a label new to us, is from the foothills of the Sierra Nevada, which is becoming a hot spot for red Rhône varieties. Proprietors Greg and Sharon Baiocchi have a 12-acre vineyard in the Fair Play appellation planted to Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Tempranillo.
